Easton, PA - August 27, 2025: The Moravian Academy High School boys soccer team bounced back from last week's season opening loss and defeated Notre Dame Green Pond 2-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Moravian’s Selman Eris, a senior, scored both goals for the Lions. Eris’ first goal was at the 34th minute mark of the first half.
“I got the ball at the top of the box and I saw the goal but didn’t go directly for it. I did a little fake, I sent the defender, and I hit it as hard as I can,” said Eris. “I haven’t won on this field in a long time, my whole years in high school, so it feels good to be back and win the game”
The game was tied up by Notre Dame at the 38th minute mark of the second half when, after a corner kick, Quinn Bohn bounced the ball over the Moravian goalie’s head. Notre Dame would continue to have several scoring opportunities late in the second half but their shots either went wide or were stopped by defenders.
Eris’ second goal of the game came at the 28th minute mark of the second half after Notre Dame was called for a foul. Eris capitalized on the free kick and the goal gave his team the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Moravian Head Coach George Andriko, after the game, said: “This isn’t an easy place to play and we haven’t won here in about five years. It’s a different field but we talked about playing hard. This is one of the ones where you are happy with the result but not the process. We made mistakes but I’m happy overall with the performance. We got work to do and we’ll build off of this win.”
Notre Dame won their opening game last week so with this loss, they fall to 1-1. They visit Pen Argyl on Friday. Moravian is home against Lehighton on Friday.
