Bethlehem, PA - January 18, 2025: The Lehigh University men’s basketball team dropped to 6-11 overall and 1-5 in the Patriot League after suffering a loss to Loyola University Maryland 76-60 Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day. This was Lehigh’s second loss to the Greyhounds this month as they lost 80-74 on January 5th in Baltimore.
Although the lead changed many times in the first half, Lehigh seemed to control the momentum and took a 33-31 lead into the locker. Loyola however came out strong in the 2nd half and made some adjustments while Lehigh struggled from 3-point land. Loyola was able to hit consistently from the 3-point stripe in the second half and outscored Lehigh by 18 points.
Lehigh shot 47.9% from 2-point territory and 43.8 from 3-point territory while Loyola shot 50% from both 2-point and 3-point territory. Loyola had 35 rebounds compared to Lehigh’s 22.
Cam Gillus (0) and Edouard Benoit (5) led Lehigh with 15 points each. Benoit also had 4 rebounds but Loyola did out-rebound Lehigh 35 to 22. Loyola’s Veljko Ilic (1) had 15 points while brother Milos had 14 points. The 6’10” seniors from Serbia combined for 15 rebounds.
Loyola, with the win, has now defeated Lehigh six out of the last ten games. Lehigh is back in action on January 22nd when they take on American University in Washington DC.
