Allentown, PA - May 11, 2025: Approximately one month into the 2025 baseball season, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs are at the top of the International League East with a record of 27-12. In second place is Durham at 24-14.
The Iron Pigs completed a six game series today at home, winning four out of the six games against the Worcester Red Sox. The series started off bumpy when the Iron Pigs lost Tuesday and Wednesday night before winning four in a row, including Sunday afternoon’s 6-0 shutout on a beautiful Mother’s Day in front of 10,100 fans at Coca Cola Park.
Sunday’s game was scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Red Sox pitcher Jose De Leon, who entered the game for injured pitcher Josh Winckowski in the same inning, walked Gabriel Rincones Jr. and Christian Arroyo. Garrett Stubbs then came up to bat with one out and he drilled a shot to right field to give the Iron Pigs a 3-0 lead. It was Stubbs’ third home run of the season.
The Iron Pigs added a run in the fifth inning when Justin Crawford doubled down the left field line followed by three walks in a row to Otto Kemp, Gabriel Rincones Jr., and Christian Arroyo.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Buddy Kennedy singled to left field, Oscar Mercado walked, and Rodolfo Castro then tripled to center field, scoring two (6-0).
Nabil Crismatt picked up the win for the Iron Pigs (4-1). Crismatt pitched seven innings, gave up three hits, and struck out three. He has now pitched sixteen innings without giving up a run. Jose De Leon recorded the loss for the Red Sox (0-1). The Red Sox pitchers gave up five hits and walked seven.
The Iron Pigs have been led at the plate so far this season by Otto Kemp, Oscar Mercado, Gabriel Rincones Jr., and Buddy Kennedy. Kemp has 48 hits in 38 games played, Mercado has 31 hits in 36 games played, Rincones Jr. has 32 in 34 games played, and Kennedy has 31 hits in 30 games played. Kemp’s bat has been on fire and he stands tied for first place in hitting in the International League. He currently has ten home runs.
On the mound, the Iron Pigs have been led by Mick Abel who is 5-2 and Crismatt who is 4-1. Abel recorded a season high nine strikeouts in their win Saturday night against the Red Sox. Crismatt’s ERA is 1.96 and he has thirty-two strike outs. Alan Rangel has a 2-0 record so far for the Iron Pigs.
Phillies top prospect Andrew Painter pitched Thursday night against the Red Sox in his Triple-A debut. Painter pitched three innings and struck out five in the 3-1 rain shortened win for the Iron Pigs. Devin Sweet (1-0) recorded the win Thursday night.
