Lehigh Sweeps Lafayette

Easton, PA - March 30, 2025: Lehigh University swept their three-game rivalry series against Lafayette College this weekend at Lafayette’s softball field. Lehigh won the first and second games Saturday afternoon 8-7 and 7-5, and won Sunday afternoon in extra innings 10-4.


In game one Saturday, Lehigh jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Senior Julia Mrochko (13) singled and eventually scored on a Rory Dudley (10) single down the right field line. Mrochko finished game one with three hits, including two doubles.


In the top of the 3rd inning, Lehigh added two more runs to take a 3-0 lead. Mrochko doubled, Kelly Fricker (11) singled, Dudley singled, and Maddy Schmeiser (20) singled.


Lafayette responded however with six runs in the bottom half of the same inning. Lafayette’s Mary Grace O’Neill (10) got things started with a double to left-center. A hit by pitch, a walk, a pass ball, and singles by Emma Ahlborn (6), Maggie Klug (26), and Jocelyn O’Keeffe (7), as well as a double by Regan Dillon (15), led to the big inning for the Pards. Dillon would finish the game with four hits.


Lafayette added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 7-3 before Lehigh answered in the top of the 5th inning with five runs.


Lehigh’s Schmeiser got things started in the 5th with a single up the middle. She would finish the game with three hits. Sydney Parlett (4) then doubled to left. Lafayette had several mistakes in the inning which included two hit by pitches, a wild pitch, and a fielding error. Fricker then singled to left field. Lehigh took the lead 8-7 and both teams blanked the 6th and 7th innings.


Lehigh’s Maria Urban (21), in relief, pitched 3.1 innings, gave up zero runs, and was credited with the win while Lafayette’s Marisa Powell (14) was credited with the loss. Lehigh used three different pitchers, including Chloe Hess (2), who started the game and gave up five runs, and Maddy Clark (3), who pitched one inning and gave up two runs.


In game two Saturday, Lehigh would come from behind once again for the win.


The Mountain Hawks jumped out once again to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a Fricker single, a Mrochko walk, and a double to right field by Dudley.


Lehigh added to their lead with two runs in the top of the 3rd inning before Lafayette answered with four runs in the bottom half to tie the game at four. Lafayette scored their runs after O’Keeffe reached on a Lehigh error followed by three singles, Olivia Catalina (4), O’Neill, and Ahlborn. Lehigh committed their second error of the inning, leading to a Lafayette run.


In the 6th inning, Lehigh scored three runs to break the tie. Lehigh’s Lindsey Martin (7) started the rally with a double. Parlett hit a double to left field, Fricker singled, Mrochko doubled to left, and Dudley singled to right. Mrochko and Dudley led Lehigh in game two with three hits each.


Lafayette added a run in the 6th inning but it was not enough as Lehigh held on for the win. Maggie Klug (26) had two hits in the game to lead Lafayette.


Urban started the game for Lehigh. She pitched 2.1 innings and gave up four runs. Maddison Finnerty (1), who came in and pitched 4.2 innings, was credited with the win. Lafayette’s Parker Rowden (18) received the loss.


In game three Sunday, Lafayette scored one in the bottom of the first inning. Lehigh scored two in the top of the 4th. Lafayette came from behind in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the game at 2 on a Dillon home run to left field.

In the 8th inning, both teams scored two runs to remain tied 4-4. Then, in the 10th inning, lehigh exploded for six runs on six hits to take the lead 10-4.


Lehigh’s Peyton Sward (23) started it off with a single, followed by Lindsey Martin (7), Holly Lovett (77), Helen Woloshyn (9), and Wrigley Fanter (6), who all singled as well. Mrochko added a double. She would finish the game with two hits while Lovett would lead the Mountain Hawks with four hits in the thriller of a game. Woloshyn and Fricker are only freshmen while Sward and Lovett are sophomores.


Lehigh’s Madison Finnerty (1) pitched all ten innings, faced thirty-eight batters, and gave up four runs on eight hits. She struck out twelve and earned the win. Lafayette utilized three pitchers, Marisa Powell (14), Makayla Lecky (13), and Parker Rowden (18) who was credited with the loss.


Both teams are now 3-3 in the Patriot League.
