Bethlehem, PA - April 6, 2025: The Lehigh University softball team, for the second weekend in a row, swept their opponent to improve to 6-3 in the Patriot League.

Lehigh defeated Bucknell University 9-1 and 2-0 on Friday afternoon before closing out the weekend Sunday afternoon with an 11-0 win in the three-game series at Lehigh’s Leadership Park on Goodman Campus.

Lehigh’s pitching shined, and the defense made some big plays, as Bucknell could muster only six hits in eighteen innings and sixty-six batters.

In the circle, Madison Finnerty (1), a freshman, led the way in games one and three. She gave up three hits in game one on Friday before coming back this afternoon and throwing a one-hitter. Chloe Hess (2), a junior, threw a two-hitter for the win in game two on Friday.

At the plate, Lehigh’s Kelly Fricker (11), a freshman, led the way for the Mountain Hawks in the first game. She went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored in the shortened run-rule game. Rory Dudley (10), a senior, Maddy Schmeiser (20), a senior, and Holly Lovette (77), a sophomore, contributed two hits each.

In the second game, Dudley and Lindsey Martin (7), a senior, combined for three clutch hits. Martin, in the bottom of the 6th inning, knocked in the two runs with a single to right field which scored Dudley, who had singled earlier, and Julia Mrochko (13), who reached on an error.

In game three, Lehigh wasted no time in getting things started. In the bottom of the first, Kelly Fricker (11), a freshman, led off with a single to left field. Mrochko moved Fricker to second on a sac bunt before Dudley hit a home run to left field, giving the Mountain hawks the early 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, Lehigh exploded for eight runs on six hits. They totaled thirteen hits in the game with Mrochko and Dudley leading the way with three hits each. Lehigh added another run in the bottom of the third inning on their way to a second shortened run-rule victory.

Lehigh travels to Colgate next weekend before visiting Holy Cross the following weekend. They then host Boston University at Leadership Park to close out April.
