Kutztown v E Stroudsburg

Kutztown, PA - January 29, 2025: The Kutztown University women’s and men’s basketball teams hosted East Stroudsburg University tonight at Keystone Arena for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), East Division, doubleheader.


The women got things underway first at 5:30pm. In a close contest with multiple lead changes, Kutztown edged East Stroudsburg 62-58 in overtime. Kutztown’s Abby Hearn (23) and Naia Pulliam (21) led the the Golden Bears to the thrilling win. Hearn scored 14 points while Pulliam scored 12 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. It was Pulliam who hit a 3-point basket with no time left on the clock to send the contest into overtime. Hearn and East Stroudsburg’s Emily Chmiel (33) battled in the paint all evening. Chmiel finished the game with 23 points and 18 rebounds.


Kutztown had an opportunity to win the game in regulation while being down one point with under a minute to play but they turned the ball over as the shot clock was winding down. East Stroudsburg then had an opportunity of their own to seal the victory but they as well turned the ball over on a travel call with 12.9 seconds left on the clock, 51-50.


Kutztown then inbounded the ball and it was eventually put in the hands of Leila Hurley (2) who attempted a 3-pointer but the shot was blocked by Jessica Polin (15). Hurley, a Jim Thorpe High School grad, hit a couple 3-point buckets in the game so she was hot. The blocked ball was picked up by Brie Droege (23) who Kutztown immediately fouled. Droege went to the line where she made both free throws to put East Stroudsburg up 53-50 with 1.2 seconds left on the clock. Kutztown first called a timeout to go over a play. They inbounded the ball to Shannon Remolde (1) who who quickly passed it to Pulliam who turned and fired from 3-point territory to tie the game at 53.


In overtime, it was Remolde who scored five points. She hit a 3-pointer and went in for a layup. Bella Quinn (3) and Bella Arcuri (12) would each make two free throws. Kutztown outscored East Stroudsburg 9 to 5 in OT. This was Kutztown’s sixth straight win as they improved to 12-10 overall. East Stroudsburg fell to 8-11 overall.


East Stroudsburg’s Corrin Gill (2), a Freedom High School grad, and Cassidy Taylor (24), a Bethlehem Catholic High School grad, saw action in the game.


In the men’s game, the East Stroudsburg Warriors controlled the chippy fast paced contest from start to finish to defeat Kutztown 88-69. East Stroudsburg used full-court pressure most of the evening and Kutztown committed 21 turnovers in trying to cope. East Stroudsburg in the first half went on a 18-0 run to make the score 35-13 at one point. East Stroudsburg improved to 15-5 overall while Kutztown fell to 7-13. The Warriors remain in third place in the PSAC East Division with eight games left.


Nasir Griffin (24) and Ethan Millirons (11) led East Stroudsburg. Griffin scored 19 points and had 7 rebounds while Millirons scored 18 points. Yahmir Satterfield (20) led Kutztown with 15 points. Kutztown’s Juju Pagan (12), a sophomore from Pocono Mountain West High School, scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. He was 7 for 7 from the free throw line.
