Center Valley, PA - May 17, 2024: The Bethlehem Liberty High School Hurricanes and the Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks squared off at DeSales University for the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) baseball championship with the Hurricanes winning 12-2 in a run-rule outcome to win back-to-back EPC Championships. The Golden Hawks started fast, scoring two runs in the top of the first, followed by the Hurricanes scoring one in the bottom half of that inning, 2-1 after one. The Hurricanes then controlled the game afterward, shutting out the Golden Hawks while having two big innings in which they scored three runs in the third and six in the fifth. They added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The Hurricanes had thirteen hits to the Golden Hawks’ six hits. The Golden Hawks were credited with three errors in the game. Leading the way for the Hurricanes was Franklin Pichardo who went 3 for 4. Three Liberty players, Noah Gyauch-Quirk, Paul Erfle, and Dayton Aguiar, added two hits apiece. Luke Piripavel went four innings for the Hurricanes and recorded the win while Phil Taylor went three innings and recorded the loss. The Golden Hawks unsuccessfully utilized four pitchers to attempt to keep the Hurricanes in check. The Hurricanes finished with an overall season record of 17-5.
