Allentown, PA - May 2, 2024: In a home series for Kutztown University (KU), they hosted East Stroudsburg University (ESU) Thursday at The Iron Pigs' Coca-Cola Park for two PSAC games. East Stroudsburg improved to 37-9 by winning both games, the first 13-5 and the second 9-5. In the first game, ESU started fast, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Over the next four innings, KU chipped away at the ESU lead and kept it close, 6-5 going into the sixth inning. But, ESU scored six runs in the top of the sixth and one run in the top of the seventh, having a whopping nineteen total hits in the game while limiting KU to eight hits. Brent Francisco went 4.2 innings for ESU and notched the win while Carson Renner came in to get the save. ESU's Tim Haverstick (pictured below) went four for five at the plate with two RBI's to lead his team. ESU's Jimmy Kerley went two for three, including a home run. KU's Michael Burns went two for three in game one. In game two, KU's rally in the seventh inning fell short as ESU again exploded for fifteen hits in the game, including five runs in the top of the seventh inning. KU had six hits in game two. ESU's Jack Rothenhausler led his team in game two, going three for four and scoring two runs. ESU had five doubles in the game. Ryan Dewees stayed unbeaten (7-0) for ESU as he pitched six innings. Jaden Newton came in for the save. KU had a tough rebuilding year and fell overall to 16-32. Both teams square off again tomorrow, May 3rd, at ESU for their final two games of the season before the PSAC Championships start next week, May 8-12, at Slippery Rock, PA.
