Whitehall, PA - October 19, 2024: In a rematch of the 2023 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference (EPC) girls soccer finals, in which Parkland High School won 2-1, the Allentown Central Catholic High School girls soccer team avenged the loss in defeating Parkland 3-1 to win the 2024 EPC championship and remain undefeated in EPC play this season. Allentown Central Catholic wasted no time in scoring the first goal of the game as senior mid-fielder Ashley Fanger broke free thirty seconds into the game to put her team up 1-0. The early goal seemed to give the Vikettes a lot of momentum as they controlled the ball for the majority of the first half. Parkland fought back however and tied the game up 1-1 when Deliah Zaiter, a freshman, scored a goal. Vikette freshman Juliet Snyder then matched her counterpart when she scored a goal to break the tie (2-1). Senior forward Meredith Eisenmann then added the insurance goal for the Vikettes which secured the victory and championship for the Vikettes. Allentown Central Catholic defeated Parkland earlier in the season by the score of 2-0. This was Allentown Central Catholic’s first EPC championship since the conference change. Parkland has dominated in the EPC girls soccer championship for the past 10+ years so this was a big win for the Vikettes.
In the EPC boys final, Emmaus High School defeated top seed Parkland High School 3-1 to win their first championship since 2020 and fourth overall. Emmaus scored first when Callum Harvey knocked it in for the 1-0 lead. Emmaus’ Kai Mattern then put his team up 2-0 when he scored a goal on a beautiful header with short time left in the first half. Emmaus had the momentum and played with a lot of confidence going into the half up by two goals. Mohamed Hassanali then made it 3-0 in the second half for Emmaus before Parkland’s Lincoln Fritz scored a goal late to prevent the shutout. Emmaus had defeated William Allen High School and Freedom High School, the 2021 champions, on their way to a championship season.
