Emmaus v PV Field Hockey
Emmaus, PA - September 8, 2026: The Emmaus High School field hockey team controlled every aspect of the match Tuesday evening and recorded their third straight shutout victory of the season, improving their record to 3-0, after defeating Pleasant Valley High School 12-0.
Scoring for Emmaus in the first period were Ella Horner and Gracie Huffer, who each scored twice. Marissa Gigliotti, Sadie Nawarynski had the assists.
Scoring for Emmaus in the second period were Huffer, Horner, Peyton Webb, and Rylie Povilaltis. Gigliotti, Horner, Nawarynski, and Avery Aquino recorded assists.
Scoring for Emmaus in the third period were Gigliotti and Huffer with Avery Rudoi and Madi Lenig having the assists.
Scoring for Emmaus in the fourth quarter were Bryn Cronin and Povilaitis with Aquino, Cronin, and Narwarynski having the assists.
The score at the half was 8-0, but you wouldn’t know it if you were listening to the Emmaus coaches going over things with the players. And, it wasn’t just the coaches talking. The players were speaking up and instructing some of the other players. It was certainly refreshing to hear the mature interaction between the players and coaches. The maturity of these young athletes was impressive and that’s a testament to the type of program Head Coach Sue Butz-Stavin runs with her team. Emmaus is a high school team but we continually see so many parallels between this team and many of the college teams.
Emmaus took fifty direct shots on goal while a staunch Emmaus defense allowed none. On the Pleasant Valley side, it was impressive to see their goal tender, Emmilyn Stipeck, face the barrage of shots from Emmaus and stop thirty-four of those shots. Emmaus had fifteen penalty corners to Pleasant Valley’s zero.
Emmaus Head Coach Butz-Stavin is in her 51st year of coaching. The NFHCA Hall of Fame inductee recorded her 1,122 win Tuesday night. She is the all-time winningest field hockey coach in U.S. history. She has guided her teams to 16 PIAA State Championships.
There is so much more we can write about on Coach Butz-Stavin, but one thing stands out, and it’s not the emphasis on winning, which is everything, right?
No, for Coach Sue, coaching is about far more than winning. It’s about learning life skills and developing well-rounded individuals who take the lessons of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance into every part of their lives. You win in life with people, sports is just a game.
