Dunmore, PA - January 24, 2026: The Easton High School girls basketball team traveled to Dunmore High School Saturday afternoon where they extended their win streak to twelve after defeating the Bucks 52-40.
The Red Rovers were led by Melina Cole who had 20 points and Natalie Amato who had 15 points. Dunmore, a District II powerhouse, was led by Amanda Dempsey who had 24 points.
Easton jumped out to an early lead and was never behind in the game. Easton won the first period 13-8 behind Melina Cole who hit two 3-pointers and a field goal. Gabby Wismer added a 3-pointer while Amato hit a field goal.
At the half, Easton extended their lead to 28-15. Once again it was Melina Cole who hit three 3-pointers in the second period for the Red Rovers. Wismer hit a 3-pointer as well and finished the game with 10 points.
Dunmore, who won a 3A state championship in 2023, fought back late in the third period and again in the fourth but they could not get close enough as Easton’s defense tightened up to secure the victory. Both teams struggled at times with turnovers in a hard pressed game. Easton was able to convert on five of six free throws late in the game as Dunmore attempted to exchange fouls for additional possessions in hopes to close the gap.
Easton improved to 16-2 overall with the win. Dunmore, who is currently undefeated in their Lackawanna league/conference, fell to 12-3 overall.
