Bethlehem, PA - May 3, 2025: The Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) held it's District 1 Annual Track and Field Championships today at Notre Dame Green Pond High School. The event featured eight parish teams from Northampton County competing in two divisions. Athletes competed and aimed for the top honors for the 2025 season.
Following four regular-season qualifying meets, an impressive 521 athletes, from
Kindergarten through 8th grade, competed in twelve different events, ranging from the 50-meter dash to the 1600-meter run, and field events such as the Long Jump and javelin. Athletes vied for gold, silver, and bronze medals in a high-energy and spirited
atmosphere.
Represented teams included St. Theresa (Hellertown), OLPH (Bethlehem), St. Ann (Bethlehem), SJNR (Palmerton), Holy Family (Nazareth), St. Jane’s (Easton), ICS (Bangor), and Notre Dame (Bethlehem).
The level of competition was outstanding and the final team scores were very close. In the K–4 division, the top four teams were separated by a mere 3 points. In the 5–8 division, the margin was only 5 points. Ultimately, Holy Family and Nazareth emerged victorious, capturing the 2025 District title for the first time in 20 years.
CYO Track and Field is more than just a competition. It embodies the spirit of youth
sports rooted in Christian values, offering children a supportive environment that
nurtures both athletic potential and personal growth. The program’s commitment to
faith, family, and fun is reflected in the dedication of its volunteer coaches, who mentor
athletes with love, encouragement, and compassion.
Over the years, many CYO alumni have gone on to achieve success at the high school
and collegiate levels, including recent champions in district, state, and conference
competitions. Notably, a former CYO athlete was recently named Top Field Athlete and
ACC Indoor Shot Put Champion at the University of North Carolina.
CYO Track and Field is open to all parish children in good standing. To join a parish team near you for the 2026 season, please contact Dave Hohl at hohlhouse@gmail.com.
